Straight cutting method:
Operation: Hold the knife with your left hand and the hammer with your right hand. The handle of the knife is vertically downward, and the slope of the knife is facing outward, close to the edge of the line. Before hitting, chisel the knife at an angle of about 75 °~90 ° with the board surface, shake it left and right, grasp the position so that the blade cuts into the wood, then push the knife to 90 ° and hit it downwards along the edge of the line (i.e. stroke).
Features: It not only has the flexibility of knife handling, but also can express the cutting feeling of lines on the carrier, allowing viewers to experience the artistic effect of "board carving flavor". It is the most commonly used knife technique in engraving creation.
Diagonal cutting method:
Operation: Generally used in conjunction with the straight cutting method, hold the knife with your left hand and the hammer with your right hand. The handle of the knife forms an angle of about 40 °~60 ° with the surface of the board, and the knife is tilted towards the bottom of the straight cutting knife, bringing out wood debris and forming a "V" - shaped groove.
Features: Able to carve sloping lines, increasing the three-dimensional and layered sense of text.
Mixed knife technique:
Operation: manifested in the free use of straight and oblique cutting knives, with the left hand holding the knife and the right hand holding the hammer. The angle formed between the handle and the board surface, as well as the depth of chiseling, are arbitrarily determined, and the chiseling of the surface and edges are integrated.
Characteristics: Pursuing the fun of knife marks, freely crisscrossing without carving, emphasizing the effect of board carving, this knife technique is often used in freehand style works.
