1. Crush Chip Breakers
Core advantage: The wavy cutting edge can break wide and long continuous chips into multiple small "C" or "9" shaped fragments.
Benefits:
Beneficial for chip removal: Small chips are more easily washed away by cutting fluid, avoiding entanglement on the tool or workpiece, and preventing tool damage, workpiece scratches, or even tool breakage caused by poor chip removal.
Reduce cutting force: Disperse the overall cutting force into multiple small impact forces, reducing the overall load on the tool, spindle, and workpiece, making the machining process more stable.
2. Reduce vibration and flutter
The wavy cutting edge makes the contact between the tool and the workpiece no longer continuous, but intermittent. This "cut in cut out" pulse cutting method can effectively suppress the generation of resonance and chatter, and even in machine tools or clamping conditions with insufficient rigidity, more stable heavy cutting can be achieved.
3. Allow for deep and high cuts
Thanks to the aforementioned vibration and force reduction characteristics, rough skin milling cutters can adopt much larger cutting depths (Axial Depth of Cut) and higher feed rates (Feed Rate) than ordinary flat head milling cutters. This means that it can remove more materials per unit time, resulting in extremely high processing efficiency.
