High Helix Angle - typically ≥ 45 °
Function: Like the spiral of an electric drill, it provides excellent chip removal ability. The large helix angle can generate an upward axial force, which quickly "throws" the chips out of the machining area. At the same time, it makes the cutting process smoother and reduces cutting vibration.
Large Flux Gullet
Function: Provide sufficient storage space for a large amount of aluminum chips, preventing chip blockage, overheating, and tool damage caused by poor chip removal.
Sharp Edge&Positive Rake Angle
Function: Sharp cutting edges can reduce cutting resistance, achieve "cutting" rather than "knocking open" materials, thereby suppressing the formation of chip lumps and obtaining a smooth surface. Positive rake angle makes cutting smoother.
Special surface treatment/material
No coating or special coating:
Uncoated/polished cutting edge: This is the most common choice for aluminum milling cutters. The highly polished cutting edge is very smooth, which can minimize the adhesion of aluminum chips to the greatest extent possible.
Coatings specifically designed for aluminum, such as TiB2 (titanium diboride) coating, have an extremely low coefficient of friction and incompatibility with aluminum, which can effectively prevent chip buildup and have a longer lifespan than uncoated cutting tools.
